A series of upcoming paranormal podcast events promises to be a spirited affair.
Spirits with Spirits runs on the last Thursday of every month between 7 and 9 p.m. at Little Brown Jug Brewing Co. (336 William Ave.).
Jas Flamand and Sher Sigurdson are the co-creators and co-hosts of the Giving Up the Ghost podcast, which has focused for the last five years on covering, exploring, and researching unexplained paranormal phenomena in Winnipeg and the surrounding area.

The friends have now teamed up with Raven’s End Books (1859 Portage Ave.) and the Winnipeg Paranormal Group to deliver Spirits with Spirits — an interactive, ghost story-themed night.
The first hour of Spirits with Spirits sessions will feature Flamand and Sigurdson hosting a podcast-style chat, while the second hour will include an open mic segment, when others can share their own experiences and stories of the paranormal. Prospective speakers are encouraged to contact Flamand and Sigurdson to arrange to take part.
Members of the Winnipeg Paranormal Group often bring along equipment from their arsenal of paranormal investigation and help illustrate the work of group members.
“Part of our philosophy is that we feel it’s important these paranormal stories survive,” said Flamand, who lives in Island Lakes. She said the podcast provides an audio history of local paranormal activity.
“All of the Spirits with Spirits collaborators agree that we need something like this on the Winnipeg scene.”
Flamand said that, while many people don’t always accept tales of ghosts and the paranormal, she hopes Spirits with Spirits will create an atmosphere of camaraderie and provide a safe space for those attending and participating.
“If you think about it from the perspective of being an optimistic skeptic, we’d never judge people. We want to bring open-minded people together,” she said, adding that she feels such events “bring the world closer together.”
“In our own way, it’s a bit like a kitchen party.”
Ashley Barnes, lead investigator of the Winnipeg Paranormal Group, said the group consists of like-minded individuals — “we’re like a little family” — who share a passion for the paranormal and get together to conduct investigations for a range of clients. They also appear at public events, and sometimes help out with fundraisers for various organizations.
“In Winnipeg, there’s a huge interest in the paranormal,” Barnes said. “We sell out our events every year.”
The first Spirits with Spirits night was held May 29, with the next one scheduled for June 27.
