Hey there, time traveller!

The St. Vital landscape became a little more musical recently.

On June 7, the intersection of St. Michael Road and Wright Street was renamed Big Sky Country Way in honour of Canadian musical legend Ray St. Germain.

St. Germain was born in 1940 and grew up on St. Michael Road in St. Vital. The street’s honorary name is a nod to the Métis recording artist’s show Big Sky Country, which aired for 13 years on Global TV.

In 1998, St. Germain and Manitoba Métis Federation president created the Métis Hour, a live radio show on NCI-FM with co-host Naomi Clarke, organizers say.

St. Germain’s accolades include the Aboriginal Order of Canada, the Order of Manitoba, and his induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
