Following its official announcement in September 2023, ground has been officially broken and the very first steps of construction are underway at the site of what will eventually be the Anne Oake Family Recovery Centre, located on the corner of Snow Street and Dartmouth Drive behind Victoria General Hospital.

Manitoba premier Wab Kinew; Scott Oake, founder and president of the Bruce Oake Memorial Foundation; former premier Gary Doer and Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey, co-chairs of the capital campaign for the recovery centre; and Ron MacLean, sportscaster for Hockey Night in Canada, all took part in the commemorative groundbreaking ceremony.

So far, the capital campaign for the project has reached $12 million of its $25 million goal.
