With the holiday season less than two months away, Janice Roy is once again preparing for Winakwa Community Centre’s annual craft sale.

The event will be held at the centre, located at 980 Winakwa Rd., on Saturday, Nov. 16 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission will be $1 per person.

Roy, the craft sale’s longtime co-ordinator, who has been involved for more than 20 years, said there will more space dedicated to the sale this year. Various elements will be held in the centre’s lobby, the gym, and the Linda Boyd Studio, which will enable organizers to set up a shopping area and a dining area.

“The sale continues to grow in popularity,” said Roy, noting this year’s event will showcase around 70 vendors, and there’s a waiting list for vendors.

Anyone looking to start their Christmas shopping on the early side can expect to find a large cross-section of items at the sale. This includes baking, crocheting, greetings cards, jewelry, knitting, stained glass, woodworking, wreaths and seasonal decorations.

“We’ll even have one vendor coming this year who’ll be selling fascinator hats, which are fancy hats. There’s really something for everyone,” Roy said.

Roy said that, apart from the shopping, the sale is also a chance for community members to gather and spend time together. While some visitors come from across the city, many attendees are familiar faces in Windsor Park.

“It’s about bringing the community together, and staying connected with the community and meeting lots of people. Plus, I enjoy shopping,” Roy said, with a laugh.

Roy noted the centre’s canteen will be open during the sale.
