Brad Boudreau is the Liberal Party candidate in the upcoming provincial byelection in Transcona.

Boudreau, 30, describes himself as a proud son of Red River Métis parents and a lifelong Transcona resident who has worked recently as a policy analyst for both the provincial and federal governments. Before that, he spent nearly a decade with the Manitoba Métis Federation repatriating “Sixties Scoop” survivors and developing housing programs for Métis citizens, among other initiatives.

“I’ve been aspiring to run for public office for quite some time,” Boudreau said. “Politics has always been a passion of mine. Growing up in Transcona, that’s a community that deserves to have an MLA who brings a younger, prominent voice with new ideas to break status quo in legislature. I think it’s time for the people of Transcona to be heard, to hold this current government to account.”

Housing, employment, and health care are areas Boudreau would focus his energies on if elected.

“Owning a home remains out of reach for many. Having a safe place to call your own is not a slogan, it’s a fundamental belief. I bring that expertise from past work to work with federal and municipal counterparts to find solutions to the ongoing housing crisis we find ourselves in,” he said.

“Transcona is home to a strong working/middle-class. There is a lot of industry within the community, that means building confidence in workers that their MLA is willing to fight for them,” Boudreau added. “Health care is still healing from a decade of neglect. My promise is to work towards providing Manitobans the health care they deserve.”

Boudreau also promised to work towards increased opportunity for education and training in the community.

“I want to create pathways to success for young people,” he said. “That’s what built Transcona and will continue to build Transcona.”

The byelection be held on March 18. The seat was previously held by NDP cabinet minister Nello Altomare, who died on Jan. 14. Running for the NDP is Shannon Corbett, while Shawn Nason is the Progressive Conservative candidate and Susan Auch is running as an independent. Visit electionsmanitoba.ca for more information.
