Aveda Institute hosting fundraiser on Earth Day
Aveda Institute Winnipeg will host its annual Walk For Water on April 22 in support of WaterAid Canada.
Since 2006, Aveda Canada has raised more than $5 million for WaterAid Canada, providing over 180,000 people with access to clean water.
“Aveda’s mission is to care for the world we live in, and there’s nothing more vital to this world than water. Giving back to our community — both close to home and abroad — is one of our most pivotal goals,” Roberto Sinopoli, Institute CEO, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be hosting the national walk in Winnipeg this year and gathering people together for such a worthy cause.”
The Walk For Water will be on April 22 at 9 a.m., and will begin at 276 Portage Ave.
ValourCon to return April 25, 26

The two-day celebration of scale modelling will feature a vendor area featuring local and out-of-town sellers, a model contest, and a chance for visitors to view scale models up close.
“ValourCon is more than just a competition — it’s a gathering of passionate modellers sharing techniques, inspiration, and camaraderie,” said Owen Linton, a member of the Winnipeg Model Boat Club, in a release. “Whether you’re a seasoned builder or just starting out, there’s something here for everyone.”
The event is open to all ages and admission is free. For more information, visit ipmswinnipeg.ca/events/valourcon-25-victory-1945
Jane’s Walk Winnipeg is looking for volunteer walk leaders
Jane’s Walk Winnipeg returns May 2 to May 4, and organizers are looking for volunteers to create and lead walks in Winnipeg as part of the international Jane’s Walk Festival.
According to organizers, the annual festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations is inspired by renowned urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs “to encourage people to explore their cities, to share stories about their neighbourhoods, and to discover unseen aspects of their communities.” Jane’s Walk Winnipeg is hosted by the Winnipeg Arts Council and is run by citizen-volunteers. Walks can cover a wide variety of topics from historical landmarks, hidden gems, public art, to local lore, influential figures, and grassroots initiatives.
