Water main flushing taking place in southeast Winnipeg
The City of Winnipeg crews began flushing water mains in southeast Winnipeg on May 14.
Crews will start flushing water mains in the neighbourhood of Maginot, followed by: Windsor Park; Niakwa Place; Niakwa Park; Southdale; Southland Park; Royalwood; Island Lakes; Fraipont; and Sage Creek.
Residents will be notified two to four days before the flushing work starts. The notice gives information about what to expect before, during, and after the work is done. The city expects to finish the program around the end of July.

EEGS to host social drop-in event May 24
The East European Genealogical Society is hosting a drop-in event on Saturday, May 24.
EEGS volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about genealogical research, with maps and book resources on hand — as well as coffee.
The event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church (7 Tudor Cres.).
There is a small parking lot on the north side of the church, as well as street parking. Entrance is at the side door on the north side of the church, with the event taking place in the basement.
Wheel & Walk for Stroke Recovery to be held May 25
The Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba is inviting folks to get moving in support of the cause.
The St. Boniface-based non-profit will hold its Wheel & Walk for Stroke Recovery at Kildonan Place (1555 Regent Ave. W) on Sunday, May 25 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

40th annual guide dog walk to be held May 25
The Lions Club of Riverside is hosting the 40th annual walk for guide dogs. The event is sponsored by Pet Valu; and will take place on Sunday, May 25. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the walk from Riverside Lions Estates (188 Worthington Ave.) starts at 11.
Dog guides of Canada trains dogs for seven different applications. This is Riverside’s second year of hosting. There will be a silent auction and entertainment in the afternoon.

EK Garden Club to host plant sale on May 28
The East Kildonan Garden Club is hosting its annual plant sale on Wednesday, May 28.
The sale, which organizers say will feature a large selection of low-priced vegetables, herbs, annuals, perennials, house plants, succulents, and more, is first come, first served and cash only. There will also be a silent auction.
