Glenwood C.C. to hold ice cream hoedown May 30
Community members are invited to Glenwood Community Centre (27 Overton St.) on Saturday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., when the facility will host its inaugural ice cream hoedown event.
According to the centre’s website, attendees can expect a family night of dancing, a live DJ, crafts, games, a photo booth, and they will also have the chance to build their own ice cream sundaes. There will also be special appearances by the Woody and Jessie characters from Toy Story, organizers say.

Valley Gardens C.C. family fun day set for May 31
On Saturday, May 31, Valley Gardens Community Centre (218 Antrim Rd.) will host its annual family fun day.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be plenty on offer for community members of all ages. This will include a mini-market, featuring makers and community resources; free family fun games such as jumbo jenga, cornhole, bocce ball, and ladder ball; large bouncers, face painters, balloon artists, and more. Bud’s Burgers and Dogs will be on hand providing food. The Timbits Soccer Jamboree will also be taking place, starting at 10 a.m.
Tickets will be available for VGCC’s ‘Spruce it up draw’. Tickets are $15, with funds going to support the club’s outdoor basketball court project. First prize is a 10×10 deck courtesy of Step up Construction, with second prize of paint and labour for two standard-sized bedrooms courtesy of Painters Now.
Elmwood High School hosting community event June 7
Elmwood High School is hosting a community barbecue and football game fundraiser on Saturday, June 7.
Organizers are promising games and activities for the whole family, including demonstrations of basketball and football skills, a nostalgic jersey sale, a bake sale, soak a teacher, a 50/50, guest speakers, and more. A game between the Elmwood Giants and Grant Park Pirates football teams will take place at 1 p.m. at the Elmwood High School football field (505 Chalmers Ave.).
Funds raised will go towards the Elmwood High School football team and Safe Grad event, as well as the Parent Advisory Council’s student bursaries and efforts to replace the scoreboards.
Norwood C.C. to hold spring fling June 1
There should be something for everyone at Norwood Community Centre’s upcoming spring fling event, which will be held on Sunday, June 1 from 1 to 8 p.m. at 87 Walmer St.
According to the centre’s website, the festivities will include live entertainment, food options, licensed drinks, arts and crafts, bouncy castles, a magician, a clown making balloon sculptures, and a petting zoo.
There will also be a 50/50 draw, as well as raffles, and visitors are encouraged to bring a food donation for Harvest Manitoba.
