Volunteer Manitoba to hold recruitment fair on Oct. 9

Manitobans, who are known for embracing the spirit of volunteerism, will soon have the chance to explore many different ways to give back.
Volunteer Manitoba will hold its upcoming recruitment fair at Viscount Gort Hotel (1670 Portage Ave.) on Thursday, Oct. 9 between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Now in its second year, the event is intended to promote and foster engagement and connect volunteer-minded folks with representatives from non-profit organizations to help them discover new opportunities and make a difference in their communities.

At press time, there were nearly 50 organizations signed up to take part and share information, including Adult & Teen Challenge of Central Canada, Folklorama, Meals on Wheels Winnipeg, Siloam Mission, Special Olympics Manitoba, and St. Amant.
Ashley Seymour, Volunteer Manitoba’s executive director, said organizers were delighted by last year’s turnout, which attracted more than 2,000 visitors, and she’s hoping to repeat that success this year.
“We were blown away,” Seymour said. “It really spoke to how many folks are looking to give back.”
“Our role here is as a connector to help bridge the gaps organizations and the community.”
“Folks don’t always know where to look for these opportunities,” she added.
According to Volunteer Manitoba’s website, the event is aimed at anyone looking to get involved in their communities, ranging from recently retired people looking for post-career opportunities, professionals seeking to expand their networks, newcomers to Winnipeg hoping to broaden their horizons, and high school students keen to gain valuable experience.
Seymour said it’s important to emphasize that any amount of time someone can dedicate to volunteering can go a long way: “Our free time is precious … and even if you can spare a few hours a month, that can make a big difference and impact.”
“We’re really excited to hold this event again, and we’re hoping for another good turnout,” Seymour said, adding there will lots of free parking at the venue, which “on a good bus route.”
No registration is required for the free fair, which is being held in partnership with Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada and Réseau Compassion Network.
