On March 2, the Red River section of the Nestaweya River Trail closed for the season.

The early closure was to allow for long-awaited maintenance work on the Historic Rail Bridge before seasonal ice conditions changed.

Two days later, on March 4, the Assiniboine River portion of the trail closed as well, as water levels began to rise.

On March 2, the Red River section of the Nestaweya River Trail was closed for the season so maintenance work could begin on the old rail bridge above the mouth of the Assiniboine River.

The Nestaweya trail was open for 62 days this year, falling short of last year’s 68-day season and the record 76 days set in 2019.

At press time, the Canopy and the Upper Skating Trails at The Forks remained open for skating, subject to ice and weather conditions. For more information, visit theforks.com/skate
