It’s almost civic election season
While the 2026 municipal elections across the province aren’t until Oct. 28, those considering running for council or school board positions must get organized well before then.
Prospective City of Winnipeg mayoral candidates can register beginning Friday, May1 and up to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Candidates must acquire 250 signatures of eligible voters whose names appear on voter lists.

Municipal elections will be held across Manitoba on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Candidates for city council and school boards can begin registering on June 30. They, too, have up to Sept. 22. Council and school trustee candidates must acquire signatures on 25 eligible voters whose names appear on the list. Trustee candidates must be a resident of the school division since April 28.
Eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens, Manitoba residents and be at least 18 on Oct. 28. They must also be eligible voters and not disqualified by law. All candidates must register with the senior election official before soliciting donations or incurring campaign expenses.
Nomination papers are available at the city clerk’s department at 510 Main St. between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Join the city’s summer rec services team
The City of Winnipeg is inviting applications to be part of its summer services recreation team.
Prospective summer recreation technician applicants can apply online at winnipeg.ca/careers and stop by for an in-person interview at the city’s recruitment fair on Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Sergeant Tommy Prince Place, 90 Sinclair St., organizers say.
Assiniboine Park Conservancy seeks volunteers
The Assiniboine Park Conservancy is seeking applicants for a number of volunteering roles this summer at the park, the zoo, and The Leaf.
According to a release, volunteers have flexible schedules, comprehensive training, and the chance to connect with visitors during the summer season.
All volunteers will receive cross-training, giving them the flexibility to sign up for shifts at their preferred location, organizers say.
Youth aged 14 to 18 can apply for the camp crew and teen engagement ambassador positions, as well as the conservation outreach and leadership team positions.
Adult volunteers can apply for opportunities including engagement ambassadors, visitor services concierge, special events assistants, and animal care workforce volunteers.
Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of 60 hours a year for adults and 40 hours a year for teens.
