Rotary Shredfest May 2 at St. Vital Centre

The Rotary Club of St. Boniface-St. Vital will hold its Rotary/Teenstop Jeunesse Shredfest event at St. Vital Centre on Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. until noon (or until the participating truck is full to capacity).

The annual fundraiser will be held in the centre’s parking lot between the transit loop and CIBC. Shredfest is intended to help people and organizations securely and affordably shred documents that may contain sensitive information, while also increasing paper recycling and reducing demand for landfill services.

There is a suggested donation fee of $10 per banker’s box, although no donation is required. All funds raised will be used to support youth in the St. Boniface and St. Vital areas, organizers say.

Participants are asked to remove any Shannon files or bull clips from documents before bringing them to the site.

Manitoba 55+ Games registration closes May 9

This year’s Manitoba 55+ Games will take place in Morden, Winkler and the R.M. of Stanley from June 9 to 11.

Organized by Active Aging in Manitoba, in conjunction with a host committee, and sponsored by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, the annual 55+ Games encourage older Manitobans to get out and get active — and some of the events are surprisingly competitive. This year’s Games includes competitions in everything from cribbage and horseshoes to track and field and swimming events. New events this year include disc golf and even equestrian events (at Birds Hill Park).

If you’re interested in participating or simply want to learn more, visit activeaging.mb.ca. Registration closes on May 9.
