Connell appointed new LRSD superintendent and CEO

Jackie Connell has been appointed new superintendent and CEO of the Louis Riel School Division.

She will replace Christian Michalik in the roles; Michalik is retiring after 37 years working in public education.

Louis Riel School Division has appointed Jackie Connell as its new superintendent and CEO. Connell is replacing Christian Michalik, who is retiring.

According to a release, Connell is currently the assistant deputy minister of Indigenous excellence in the department of education and early childhood Learning.

Connell — who has more than 20 years of experience through teaching and administrative roles in Manitoba’s public education systems — is described as a proud member of the Manitoba Métis Federation, whose leadership is grounded in deep commitment to Indigenous education and equity.

“Jackie is a highly regarded educational leader whose dedication to equity and student success aligns perfectly with the values of the Louis Riel School Division,” said Sandy Nemeth, LRSD board chair, in a release.

“The board is confident that her rich and varied background is the exact blend of vision and practical leadership LRSD needs to thrive,” adding the division is looking forward to working with her.

Connell was appointed at LRSD’s regular meeting on May 19.
