Transcona

The annual Hi Neighbour Festival may have come and gone in early June. But for those looking for some interesting things to do this summer, there is plenty to do in Transcona to stay busy.

Peruse a diverse set of vendors at the Transcona BIZ’s weekly farmers’ markets. Drop by Transcona Square (135 Regent Ave. W) each Thursday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Shop for fresh produce, treats, crafts, jewelry, skin care items, and more. With new vendors added all the time, each visit will be different.

Get your snacks ready and gather everyone for the Transcona BIZ’s Thursday Movie Nights at the Square. The fun begins at 7:30 p.m., with the movie starting at 9:30 p.m. This year’s bill features Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971) on July 30 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) on Aug. 14.

Join the Transcona Museum (141 Regent Ave. W) for Craft With Us on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Free with admission and offered for children ages 12 and under, the 45-minute sessions are scheduled for 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. There’s a different theme each week, with the crafts related to Transcona’s history.

Take your little explorers on the Transcona Museum’s KidsQuest. Stop by the museum, pick up your booklet for $1, and embark on a scavenger hunt throughout Transcona. Once completed, return the booklet to the museum to be eligible for a prize draw on Aug. 28.

The museum’s always-popular guided walking tours return, with a new addition in 2026. Explore Transcona’s more colourful history on Thursday mornings from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. with The Devil Strip, a 75-minute journey complete with tales of bootleggers, bank robbers, disappearances, murders and more.

For those interested in Transcona’s more traditional side, try Historic Transcona. Beginning at 2 p.m. on select Thursdays, spend 90 minutes visiting more than 30 buildings and sites that have helped shape Transcona. Or learn more about the beautiful murals that brighten up Transcona on select Thursday afternoons from 2 to 3:15 p.m. The 75-minute stroll includes stops at 20 murals.

In development is a tour highlighting Transcona’s war efforts. It takes guests to the monuments, plaques, parks, streets and businesses connected to Transcona’s contributions to the World Wars.

Slots book up fast, so call 204-222-0423 or email info@transconamuseum.mb.ca to register. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 12 years of age.
