Awards given at the 2014 Meridian Arts Festival

The annual Meridian Arts Festival’s highlights concert was held on April 28 in Starbuck.

Kiahna Chumola received the festival’s Most Outstanding Performance trophy, sponsored by Starbuck Credit Union, and also the Grade 9 piano award.

The other performers who were adjudicated for the trophy were: Benjamin Brigg, who won the Grade 4 piano award; Hanna Elskamp, who won the Grade 3 guitar award; Emily Buhler, who won the Grade 6 piano award; and Kendra Neufeld, who won the musical theatre award.
Abigail Brigg and Myriam Duval shared the preliminary piano award, while Sarah Somack was given the beginner piano award. The Grade 1 piano award went to Katherine Brunotte, and Sydney Bass won the Grade 2 piano award. Jack Zuk received the Grade 3 piano award, while Dawson Mann captured the Grade 5 piano award and junior piano provincial recommendation. The award in the piano duet category was shared by Sabrina Fischer and Jessica Puls, and Tristen Kaluzny and Jack Zuk.

Tristen Kaluzny won the beginner instrumental award, and Alyssa Houde and Shavaughn Jochum were given the instrumental duet award.

The junior vocal award was given to Kate Impey, and the vocal group award to the Sanford Collegiate choral group. Oak Bluff Community School Junior Orff Ensemble won the school Orff award, and the St. Paul’s Collegiate handbell team won the instrumental ensemble award. St. Paul’s Collegiate Grade 7 band won the school band award. Oak Bluff Community School received the recorder group award.

Timothy Veldhuis received the string award, with Izzy Elskamp earning the Grade 1 guitar award.

Luke Qually won the speech arts award. The senior vocal award went to Jasmine Arnal.

Deserving student awards were given to Noah Brigg, April Swaitkewich, Kendall Manness, Janelle Waldner, Brandon Havixbeck, Kate Jonassen and Evy Matthews.
