Developer Randy Murray is hoping that families with young children will see the benefits of living in a small community and next to a school and daycare centre.
He’s overseeing construction of what he calls an eight-plex apartment in the Village of St. Francois Xavier, on property directly west of the school.
Murray, who works full-time as an air traffic controller, said he looks for small multi-family development projects in rural communities. He’s built apartments in Carman, Oakville and Portage la Prairie that are similar in scale to the one in SFX.
He said he was attracted to the SFX site by its location.
“I took a look at the neighbourhood, the community, school and daycare,” he said.
He believes that the 1,250-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom units will appeal to families looking to enjoy life in a rural community. Each unit will have its own entrance.
“It’s a nice lifestyle,” he said, adding that he and his family live outside Winnipeg.
He’s pleased with the support shown by the municipal government and local residents.
Murray said he expects the building to be fully occupied soon after it’s completed in late spring or early summer.
