While she’s just three years old, Reese Gillis of Elie  had her dream of becoming a fire fighter come true on Sept. 21.

Gillis was one of four Canadian girls who were selected in a You Can be Anything — Barbie contest held earlier this year in honour of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

Gillis’ mother Cara said Reese dressed up in a firefighter costume for a photo that was posted as a contest entry.

Gillis was thrilled to live her dream when she spent a few hours at Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Station No. 11 (1705 Portage Ave.).

“Going up in the bucket on the ladder trunk was the highlight,” Cara said.

Gillis is following in her family’s footsteps as a firefighter since her great-grandfather Rene Gillis was the RM of Cartier’s first fire chief, and her grandfather Vince, great-uncles Lloyd and Roger, and father Chad also served on the volunteer fire department.
