Aaron Lewadniuk named league MVP

Carman Beavers captain Aaron Lewadniuk, of La Salle, is having a banner year and was recently named most valuable player in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League.

Lewadniuk, 28, scored 18 goals and 32 assists in 18 games during the regular season, putting him at the top of the league scoring race. This is the second year in a row he has netted the league’s MVP honour and third time overall as he also won in 2012-13.

“It’s always an honour because there are so many good players in the league,” Lewadniuk said.

He said the Beavers are having a good season and are peaking as the playoffs begin

“We’ve been getting stronger throughout the season,” he said. “I’m happy to get the team where they need to be.”

The Beavers are playing the Altona Maroons in the first round of playoff action, trying to repeat as champions of the SEMHL. They easily won the first game of the best-of-five series, 5-0 on Feb. 14, but lost 6-2 on Feb. 16.
