Winnipeg’s largest Canada Games capital project, the Qualico Training Centre, was officially opened to the public on July 11.
The centre is part of the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre, located in the Exchange District beside the Manitoba Museum.
The new training facility features upgraded training spaces and courts as well as a comprehensive resource centre where athletes can access a variety of physiotherapy and athletic rehabilitation treatments, for a total of 124,000 square-feet.
“This centre and the programming it offers profoundly changes Manitoba’s sport landscape. We will be working hard in the coming years to fully realize the Centre’s potential,” David Patsack, chair of Sport Manitoba’s board of directors, said.
The Sport for Life Centre will be the site of the Canada Games basketball and indoor volleyball events, however the new addition also offers a gym and track for the public that will cater to people living in the downtown area.
