Winnipeg musicians Brooklyn Samson and David Fort, who are the foundation of TWIN, are coming to Portage la Prairie to launch the group’s third full-length CD.

They will perform songs from We Rise and Dance, We Sleep and Dream on Fri., April 27 as part of the Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival’s open mic and jam night at the Portage Royal Canadian Legion (275 Duke Ave.) starting at 7 p.m.

“We’re excited to go back to Portage and play,” Samson said. TWIN has performed at the Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival in prior years.

Supplied by Brian Carey Brooklyn Samson and David Fort, of TWIN, ares shown performing. They are launching their new CD on Fri., April 27 at the Portage la Prairie Legion as part of the Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival’s open mic and jam night series.

Fort’s connection with Portage musicians and folk music fans goes back about eight years when he was part of the Assiniboine River Music Armada which involved musicians canoeing from Brandon to Winnipeg, and stopping to perform along the way. The purpose of the tour was to promote sustainable living and farming via a heritage seed exchange and a partnership with local farmers.

He has also performed on Long Plains First Nation’s radio station, and his visit there was featured in a documentary made in 2015 for the MTS Stories from Home series.

Fort said TWIN’s new recording has a darker feeling than their previous music which he terms as hypno-folk, and was influenced by recent tours in the States.

“It reflects some of the heavier feeling in the U.S.”

The CD cover and case will feature Samson’s artwork, with glow-in-the-dark elements on the case and T-shirts that will be available on April 27.
