Folk Festival logo redesigned
The Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival has a new logo — a free-spirited whooping crane.
The logo was created by Jane Miller, an artist from Ottawa, Ont.
Festival organizer Linda Omichinski said volunteers are need for this year’s festival on Sat., Aug. 25. Volunteers will receive free festival passes and a complimentary meal.

MB Showcase comes to Portage
Performers and artists from across Manitoba and Canada are coming to Portage la Prairie for the Manitoba Showcase from Oct. 25 to 28.
The Manitoba Arts Network, which co-ordinates the annual showcase, said the Portage and District Arts Centre and the William Glesby Centre, 11 2nd St. NE, will host the conference.
The conference will kick off on Thurs., Oct. 25 with an opening reception and artisan market featuring local visual artists at PDAC. This event will be open to the public.
A series of 13 seminars are being programmed for registered conference delegates.
Conference delegates and the public will also get the chance to see five provincial and national artists perform at three different live shows. These artists will be chosen from approximately 130 applicants. The winning artists will be announced in August and $20 tickets for the performances will go on sale in the fall.
Four new visual art exhibitions will feature the works of Susan Turner, Hugh Conacher, Karen Cornelius and Peter Tittenberger, and Yvette Cuthbert. Arts organizations will be able to book any of these four exhibitions for their 2019-2020 programming year.

Performing artists from the Central Region are also welcome to attend a Song Swap to share songs in real-time and receive immediate feedback from their peers on Fri., Oct. 26. This event is hosted in partnership with Manitoba Music.
