Oak Bluff defender going to Bisons
Defender Brady Pouteau, 21, who grew up in Oak Bluff, will soon be playing on the Manitoba Bison men’s hockey team.

“We are thrilled and honoured that veteran WHL defenceman Brady Pouteau has chosen the
University of Manitoba Bisons as the program to continue his hockey and academic career,”
said Bisons head coach Mike Sirant.

Pouteau recently finished off a five-year Western Hockey League career spent between the Regina Pats and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Known for his physical presence and ability to shut down the opposition’s best players, he played in 201 career regular season games, tallying 48 points while also being named an alternate captain for Regina in 2018-19.

Pouteau was also honoured as Regina’s recipient of the Rick Rypien Memorial Award in 2017-18.

He began his hockey career playing in Macdonald Minor Hockey then with the Pembina Valley Hawks. A Sanford Collegiate alumnus, Pouteau said he hasn’t decided yet on what direction his education will take at the University of Manitoba.

After travelling and living with billets for most of the past five years, Pouteau said he’s pleased to be back home in Oak Bluff.

Sanford athletes honoured
Three Sanford Collegiate Grade 12 students and Sabres basketball players were among those honoured at the Basketball Manitoba Awards on April 13.

Logan Schreyer was one of five Manitoba players named to the first team in A/AA/AAA male All-Manitoba team.

Sabres player Jordan Barrett was selected to play in the A/AA/AAA graduating all-stars girls competition, while Schreyer and Zach Van Wallegham played on one of the graduating all-stars boys teams.
