Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival is moving its Sunday, Aug. 25 performances to Island Park in Portage la Prairie.
"We have managed to reschedule all Friday acts to Sunday, leaving Friday night for tent camping and acoustic jamming like the past few years," festival artistic director Josh Wright said in a news release. "Saturday will feature the iconic festival experience on the original site with music from noon until midnight and daytime workshops for people of all ages. Sunday’s program will be relocated to Island Park with music on the Oddfellows Stage from noon till 10:00 p.m."
Festival site co-ordinator Mitchell Omichinski said that organizers want to offer a full two-day program as originally planned. He’s hopeful that having a location right in Portage on the Sunday will attract people who might not have come out to the festival’s site on his property outside Portage.
"Island Park is highly accessible to the citizens of the City of Portage la Prairie and has the potential to increase exposure and attract new faces to Whoop & Hollar," Omichinski said. "First and foremost, we want to remain a community event while reaching out to a wider audience."
Festival organizers were forced to reschedule what was to be a Friday evening, all day Saturday and most of Sunday event after the Portage District Planning Board stated that the multi-day event to be held on Omichinski’s property in the RM of Portage la Prairie contravened the conditional use permit issued for what was originally a one-day festival.
Due to the schedule changes, the festival organizers are extending early bird ticket prices to Aug. 22.
