Wild restaurant opening in northeast Winnipeg

A new restaurant is about to bring some wild flavour to the Regent Avenue strip.

Business partners Jed Porciuncula and Dennis Kim will open Wild Wing, a Canadian franchise with more than 100 locations nationwide, on Regent Avenue West near Lagimodiere Boulevard later this fall.

It will be the first Wild Wing location in Manitoba and will be located in the Crossroads Village at 1575 Regent Ave.

 Porciuncula, who currently lives in Vancouver but will be moving to Winnipeg, said he’s hoping to open the doors in November.

“I think it’s an exciting time to be in Winnipeg with the Jets, a bigger (football)stadium, and IKEA. And I know Winnipeggers like their wings,” he said.

“I noticed a lot of businesses are coming to Transcona. I think Transcona supports their businesses.”

The restaurant will be a western-style saloon with 10 televisions and will include 101 flavours of wings, and other items such as poutine and specialty hamburgers.

From the 101 flavours two will have a Winnipeg touch with the go Jets go, and Swaggerville options.

Kim, who moved to the city three years ago, said Winnipeg was an ideal location for them to do business.

“Winnipeg is probably one of the fastest growing cities in Canada,” said Kim, a resident of Waverley West.

“We feel that there’s a lot of potential here in Winnipeg.”

Scott Jocelyn, executive director of the Manitoba Restaurant and Foodservices Association, said the return of the NHL may be part of the reason restaurant chains want to open new locations in Winnipeg.

“We’ve received phone calls from restaurants that don’t have locations here. It’s like Winnipeg has been brought back on the radar for them,” Jocelyn said.

“It’s always exciting to see someone new. It’s great to have a wide range of offerings.”

Porciuncula said he and his partner have plans to open four or five other locations in Manitoba in the next three years.

Potential locations are the south Pembina area, in the new IKEA development, and one in Brandon.
