It’s taking its time, but the spring melt is coming.
To protect homes from basement flooding, the provincial government, the City of Winnipeg and rural municipalities will again subsidize the installation of sump pumps and sewer backup valves this year.
“Our homes are one of the most important investments we make for our families. As homeowners we need to take advantage of this proactive strategy to protect our property and reduce the risk of basement flooding,” said Kevin Chief, MLA for Point Douglas and minister responsible for relations with the city, in a release.
“Nearly 3,000 Manitobans took advantage of the first subsidy program. Extending this subsidy for another year will help even more families protect their homes against possible damage that can take thousands of dollars to repair.”
Municipally administered, the program will provide homeowners up to $3,000 or 60 per cent of their installation costs, with a maximum of $1,000 for an in-line backwater valve and a max of $2,000 for a sump pump and pit drainage system.
