Hey there, time traveller!

L’Arche Tova Café, a wonderful place for a good cup of coffee or a delightful brunch, is found at 119 Regent Ave. W. in Transcona’s vibrant downtown area.

The café, which opened its doors in 2012, is located  in one of Transcona’s historic old buildings (constructed circa 1916). The building, which was renovated in recent years, boasts a renewed storefront and a remodelled interior. The decor is at once modern and fresh as well as being inviting and comfortable. Small touches, such as simple candles upon each table and nice artwork on the walls, add to the pleasant atmosphere. An intimate outdoor patio is also featured.

What’s more, L’Arche Tova Café (which is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) offers a delicious menu.

The bill of fare includes all-day breakfasts, soups and salads, sandwiches and other entrées, and a lovely variety of freshly baked desserts. The small start breakfast — one egg prepared your way with half an order of home-style potatoes and toasted homemade bread — is really lovely. A gourmet soup of the day is regularly available. The fair-trade tea and fair-trade organic blend coffee are also very good. Tova’s Royal Gala Apple Strudel and freshly baked cinnamon buns are also recommended.

The staff is exceptional and the service is always excellent. In fact, it is the staff that makes L’Arche Tova Café so special.

According to its website: “L’Arche Tova Café is a social enterprise established by L’Arche Winnipeg Inc., with a goal to provide meaningful employment to people with a disability.

L’Arche members work along with mentors. L’Arche Tova Cafe also encourages the general public to interact with and get to know people with a disability, ultimately helping to build a more compassionate society.”

L’Arche International will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary. L’Arche (the French word for ark) was started in France in 1964. Its main mission is to make known the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities.

Subsequently, the café will host an art show and sale on Thurs., Aug. 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Transcona is fortunate to have L’Arche Tova Café.
