Jeff Browaty didn’t leave a lot up to the imagination, winning his North Kildonan ward handily on Oct. 22.
First elected in 2006, Browaty secured his third re-election with 11,840 votes (78.4 per cent) in the Oct. 22 election. His closest competitor, Evan Comstock, garnered 1,914 votes (12.67 per cent). The third candidate in the race, Andrew Podolecki, received 1,350 votes (8.94 per cent).
“I am honoured again to serve North Kildonan,” Browaty said. “I take the responsibility very seriously, and I want to continue to work hard for city hall and maintain an office that is open and accessible to the residents.”
After meeting his new colleagues, Browaty wants to explore options of furthering his work on his ward’s roads, something that was relayed to him by his constituents while campaigning.
“I first want to speak to and congratulate my new colleagues and the new mayor and build those relationships because on council, you have a voice and a say,” he said. “To move things forward in this city you need co-operation of colleagues and council.
“I heard from residents that we need to continue working on our roads,” he said. “We need to get those things right with public works and departments to ensure that these issues get addressed.”
Browaty said the Chief Peguis Trail expansion is something he wants to see continue to grow.
“There are a lot of the big projects I have been able to accomplish over the years have been successfully completed, things like the Chief Peguis Trail expansion,” Browaty said.
“I want Chief Peguis to be extended to McPhillips and then to Route 90. I think it’s time we started looking at traffic flow in this city. Regent and Lagimodiere just don’t perform well anymore and I think we need to look at the possibility of separation there.”
Browaty looked forward to working with new mayor Brian Bowman.
“I’ve known Brian for quite a while, I look forward to working with him going forward,” he said. “He has the reputation that the city has to improve. His experience in the chamber gives him the ability to champion that.”
“I very much enjoy the work and the opportunity to serve and am focused on continuing to do that.”
