People in Transcona will have one more place to keep cool next summer after the City of Winnipeg announced a completion date for Transcona Kinsmen Centennial Pool.

The outdoor pool at 1101 Wabasha St. will be open to the public before the end of June 2017. A grand opening is scheduled for Canada Day.

The existing outdoor pool is being converted into an outdoor aquatic park facility which will include a beach entry with spray features, four waterslides with landing pool, new pool diving boards and enhanced pathways, seating and landscaping. Much of that work should be completed his fall.

A 3,000-square-foot outdoor building is also being built. It will include universal access washroom and change rooms, accessible washrooms, exterior access change rooms, locker facilities, mechanical and electrical rooms for the outdoor pool, and storage space.

“We would like to thank everyone, especially the residents and children of Transcona for their patience on this project,” The City of Winnipeg said in a release.
