Changes to A level hockey
This season there are a number of changes at the A level for minor hockey as a result of Hockey Winnipeg rule changes:
• Novice A now includes seven- and eight-year-olds, meaning seven-year-olds will be able to try out for the novice A (formerly 8A1);
• Novice program will see teams playing at least a portion of the season on half ice (see www.hockeymanitoba.ca/players/novice for more info);
• Minor bantam has been deleted at A level, so 13- and 14-year-olds will play together;
• Minor midget has been deleted at the A level, so 15,16- and 17-year-olds will play together.
Additionally, all A teams (A1, A2, A3) within a catchment area will play under one neighbourhood banner. Players within the River East Minor Hockey Association will play for the Royals, while those in the Transcona Minor Hockey Association will suit up as Transcona Regents.
