Nomination period wraps up for city council
The period for candidates declaring their nomination for city council closed on Sept. 18. Here are nominees for city council positions in northeast Winnipeg for the upcoming Oct. 24 civic election.
Elmwood-East Kildonan
• Coun. Jason Schreyer is seeking re-election. Schreyer was elected to council in 2014. 
• Robb Massey is also running for council.
North Kildonan
• Coun. Jeff Browaty is seeking re-election. Browaty was first elected to city council in 2006.
• Andrew Podolecki is also running for council.
Transcona
With Coun. Russ Wyatt deciding not to seek re-election, there will be a new face representing the Park City on city council. The candidates are:
• Basil Evan; 
• Steven Lipischak; 
• Wally Welechenko;
• Shawn Nason;
• Shane Geschiere;
• Alex Allard;
• Raymond Ulasy;
• Sandeep Kumar Sharma.
School trustees also on the ballot
School trustees throughout Winnipeg are also up for election on Oct. 24. The following are running for positions within the River East Transcona School Division:
Ward 1 (two to be elected)
• Adam Burkowski;
• Colleen Carswell;
• Jerry Sodomlak.
Ward 3 (two to be elected)
• Jason Crampton;
• Brianne Goertzen;
• Roland Headley;
• Keith Morrison.
Ward 4 (two to be elected)
• Brenda Bage;
• Robert Gigiel; 
• Peter Kotyk;
• Susan Olynik.
In Ward 2, Rod Giesbrecht and John Toews were elected by acclamation, as was Michael West in Ward 5.
In Ward 7 of the Winnipeg School Division, which includes a number of elementary school in Elmwood and Elmwood High School, Arlene Reid was elected by acclamation.
