Klassens to talk faith at Aulneau event

The Klassen sisters will speak about their faith at an upcoming event hosted by the Aulneau Renewal Centre.

The Hamel Avenue-based centre will host a breakfast launch for its Caring for the Spirit program at Fort Gibraltar (866 Rue Saint Joseph) on Sat., April 13 at 9:30 a.m.

Multiple Winter Olympic speed skating medallist Cindy Klassen and sister Lisa Klassen, who survived a February 2008 accident when her vehicle cleared a guardrail on a bridge on the Perimeter Highway and plunged into the frozen Red River, will be speaking at the event about how their “faith has defined them and their life’s journey,” organizers say.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the program, which is designed to provide an opportunity for holistic growth, particularly for individuals the centre has served in the past and will serve in the future.

The program currently involves a chaplaincy at the centre and morning meditation. Organizers hope to include Christian meditation, a drum circle and yoga later this year, and there are also plans to add evening gatherings, featuring speakers with an emphasis on First Nations perspectives.
