Tree to help mourn lossed loved ones

A seasonal landmark tree is again helping individuals deal with the difficult loss of loved ones.

St. James-based Hospice & Palliative Care Manitoba’s (HPCM) Hospice Memory Tree will be located at St. Vital Centre near the Bay until Tues., Dec. 24.

The tree is a way for community members to help ease the pain of grief during the holidays by writing a personal greeting in a card of remembrance for a loved one who died and hanging it on the tree in a meaningful and symbolic way.

Organizers say trained volunteers will be on hand at the tree throughout the month to offer support and information about bereavement services to individuals who may be finding it difficult to cope with the grieving process during the holiday season.

According to its website, HPCM is a non-profit charity that provides community-based support, education and companion services for individuals living with life-limiting illness, their caregivers and those who are bereaved.
