Family-friendly event in support of ALS Society of Manitoba; win tasty dining experiences at city restaurants

What better way to warm your spirits than a tasty local fundraiser for a worthy cause.

The ALS Society of Manitoba is preparing to hold its inaugural Bud, Spud and Steak Fundraiser on Fri., Feb. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cowboys at Canad Inns Windsor Park, located at 1034 Elizabeth Rd. QX104 morning show host Brody Jackson is set to host the family-friendly event.

Organizers say attendees will be entitled to a beer, potatoes and a steak, and there will be a chicken option, if preferred. Caesar salad, buns and potato toppings will also be included. There will also be a rainbow and door prizes. All proceeds raised at the event will support services provided by ALSSM.

During the event, the organization will also hold a draw for the Great Dining Experience raffle. Tickets are still available and cost $5. Organizers will raffle off four prizes of various gift certificates to different restaurants across the city.

WOW! Hospitality provided the first prize, valued at $650, which consists of a $200 gift card for 529 Wellington, $150 gift card to Terrace in the Park, $150 gift card to Peasant Cookery, $75 gift card to Los Chicos Restaurante Y Cantina, and $75 gift card to Muddy Waters. Second prize, valued at $450, consists of gift certificates to The Current, Lobby on York, and Prairie 360. Third prize, valued at $250, consists of gift certificates to Rae & Jerry’s Steakhouse and Moxies Grill & Bar. Finally, fourth prize, valued at $75, is a gift card to The Round Table.

According to als.ca, ALS — also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — is a progressive neuromuscular disease characterized by the death of nerve cells, which leave voluntary muscles paralyzed. Two to three Canadians die of the disease every day.  

Tickets for the Bud, Spud and Steak Fundraiser are $20 and, as well as the raffle tickets, are available at ALSSM’s office (493 Madison St.) or by calling 204-831-1510 (ext. 4).
