Kyla and Dino Camiré are working hard to put the family back into fitness.

The pair owns and operates One Family Fitness Centre, which is located at 2 Britannica Rd. at St. Mary’s Road in St. Vital.

Talking to The Lance after recently opening their doors for first time, Kyla Camiré said the pair — who are both 33 and have a four-year-old daughter, Ella, and a two-year-old son, Eli — are passionate about helping the community.

“Our passions are health and fitness and helping others,” Camiré said, acknowledging the support of the Women’s Enterprise Centre of Manitoba. “We also have two young children and know the challenges of leading a healthy lifestyle when life can be busy. It’s a dream come true to be able to help others through health and fitness. We hope to make a big difference in the community, and as far as we can reach in Winnipeg, to help others.”

A life coach herself, Camiré said her husband has more than 10 years of personal training experience working with individuals of all ages, fitness levels, abilities and backgrounds. The members-only centre is designed to offer an all-inclusive environment to its clients regardless of their age or ability levels, Camiré said. To help achieve this goal, the facility offers one-on-one training, small group training, family-focused bootcamps and seminars. The centre has a massage therapist on-site — Parallel Motions Massage Therapy — and it will also be selling “supplements, bars and drinks that we believe in” and fitness-related gear by White Lion Athletics.

“We want to encourage families to try and get everyone involved and offer a non-threatening environment, family-friendly place to workout and learn everything they need to know to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. We want families to come in together and children aged 12 and can come and workout with their parents. We also want to encourage moms with babies wearing snugglies with the babies in them to come and workout or moms with young children to seek the assistance they need to stay active and eat healthy,” Camiré said.

There is also a playroom for kids whose parents are personal training clients.

“Our goal is to spread awareness that activity is the answer. I’ve been active my entire life, and have always been around horses, but I only got into weights since my kids were born. And as a new mom, I realize how important it is to be a strong role model,” Camiré said, noting she’d “eventually like to become certified to give post-partum classes for moms who gained weight while they were pregnant.”

“Another key thing is that we encourage people to ask for help, as lots of people get hurt in gyms because they don’t ask. And we don’t believe in cookie cutter personal trainers, because we know everyone is different and everyone needs a different plan. We know everyone needs a personalized plan, as everyone has different goals. And it’s not about fads, either. It’s about being sustainable in the long run.”

Another component to the family theme is the fact Dino has been a personal trainer to certain clients for more than a decade.

“Some clients have moved with him, so they have become like family and supported us through this journey. Now we want to grow this family in the community. It’s a great community and we’re looking forward to growing into it,” Camiré said.
