Festival du Voyageur in the books for 2018

Festival du Voyageur has wrapped for another year.

According to a news release, overall attendance at the 49th edition of the festival — that ran from Feb. 16 to 25 — was 93,400 during the 10-day event, and tickets were sold out on both Saturdays.

Organizers say attendance at Festival’s official sites was up this year, largely due “to the addition of new official sites and the fact the Rendez-Vous on Ice remained open for all four days of expected programming.”

Meanwhile, attendance at Voyageur Park was down 10 per cent from last year, which is due “to cold weather on the first weekend and changes in ticketing — limiting the amount of people of Voyageur Park to manage capacity.”

This year’s event included an increase in children’s programming and a new children’s play structure, as well as two inaugural events — the Bothwell Cheese Carving Competition on Feb. 18, and the Voyageur Pride Night on Feb. 24, which was held in partnership with Room Service, Queer People of Colour — Winnipeg (QPOC), and Sunshine House.
