Réjeanne Caron is looking forward to the chance to represent her community by running in the next federal election.

Caron recently won the nomination to become the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for the federal riding of Saint Boniface-Saint Vital.

In a news release, Caron is described as a proud English- and French-speaking Métis woman, and active community member, who grew up and attended school and church in the riding, and whose parents owned a small business, Wenden L J Real Estate Services, which provided housing services in the community.

As an active police officer, Caron has worked in uniform patrol and a variety of specialty units in the course of her 23-year career with the Winnipeg Police Service. These units include divisional detectives, major sex crimes unit, and intelligence unit. She is currently serving as the downtown safety co-ordinator for the WPS. According to the release, Caron’s experience was instrumental in assisting the WPS’s executive in the development, writing, and implementation of a downtown safety strategy.

In a recent interview, Caron told The Lance she has also policed in the riding in the course of her 23-year career with the Winnipeg Police Service.

“I have great memories of my community growing up, as it’s where my family roots are. I’m proud of its history, its vibrant culture, and French language,” Caron said.

When asked why she chose to seek the candidacy, Caron said she has been involved in public service in both her professional and personal life, and this opportunity provides her with another way to give back to her neighbours.

Public safety is also among Caron’s top priorities moving forward.

“I strongly believe in safety in the community and safety of all Canadians, which is something that is near and dear to my heart,” Caron said, noting she has trained as an intelligence analyst.

“We need to address the heart of the problem and also be the voice of the victims of crime. Throughout my career, I have fought for victims and brought criminals to justice and have served the community and now I’m taking things a step further. It’s important for me to be able to make positive changes for people in the community.”

As her campaign begins to gain momentum, Caron said her goal is “to learn from the riding’s constituents and hear what they have to say.”

“Our Conservative leader, Andrew Scheer, has a strong and positive vision for Canada, and I know it’s one we need here in Saint Boniface-Saint Vital. The fact is, the Liberal government in Ottawa has been failing Canadians, and their policies are hurting the very people they claim they’re helping. I look forward to hearing more on these and other concerns from the hardworking residents here, and being a voice for them to help put Canada back on track.”

The 43rd Canadian federal election is scheduled for Oct. 21, 2019.
