The 2018 Super-Spike event, presented by Michelob Ultra, will be held on July 20 and 21 at Maple Grove Rugby Park.

According to a news release, the event combines Western Canada’s largest outdoor/beach volleyball tournament with a weekend-long concert series.

The headlining act this year is the band Monster Truck, who will be headlining on the main stage on July 21, while The Elwins will be headlining on the main stage on July 20. Also slated to perform at this year’s event are The Pistol Whips, Vikings, Deep Dark Cove, Leanne Pearson, The Middle Coast, Ras Tamils, and the Dust Rhinos. New this year at the event, ultimate has been added as an additional sport that will run in conjunction with the volleyball tournament, organizers say.

Formerly a fundraiser for the national women’s volleyball team that has now relocated to B.C., the proceeds from Super-Spike are now split between three non-profit organizations — Volleyball Manitoba is a staple annual partner, and two rotating charities are selected each year through an annual application process. KidSport Manitoba, and the True North Youth Foundation, have been selected as the two other Super-Spike charitable recipients for 2018.

Individuals interested in entering a team for the event can go online at www.superspike.ca to register. Early bird registration fees for teams are $49 per person until June 1. All tournament participants receive free access to the concert series, and on-site activities. Early bird weekend passes for non-tournament participants are available for $25 until June 1, at which time they go up to $35.

Maple Grove Rugby Park is located at 90 Frobisher Rd. in south St. Vital.
