Renée Lamoureux is tuning up to perform at a local church venue next month.

The award-winning singer-songwriter is set to appear at the Fly and Camel Café at St. Mary’s Road United Church, which is located at 613 St. Mary’s Rd. on Sat., Nov. 3. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the performance will start at 7:30 p.m.

Described as a hidden gem in the community, the café hosts several coffee-house style events during the year. Since its launch in 2011, the café has held between 35 and 40 events, and generally holds around five a year, generally in the spring and the fall, according to artistic director Chuck Kroeker.

“During the first seven years, we’ve welcomed some of Winnipeg’s finest musicians as headliners, such as Juno nominees Don Amero, Erin Propp and Jaylene Johnson, and multiple Juno winner Steve Bell,” said Kroeker, who lives in St. Vital.

“We try to have a mix of secular and faith-based music, and we want everyone, including the musicians — especially the musicians — to have a good time.”

That’s certainly the plan for the Nov. 3 concert, which will feature the Île-des-Chênes-raised Lamoureux, who is also known as one half of country duo Keith and Renee.

The events also serve as alternating fundraisers for both the church and different community organizations, which have included Hospitality House Refugee Ministry and Habitat for Humanity Manitoba, among others. “Every second coffee house raises money for a cause beyond the church walls,” Kroeker said.

Tickets for the event are $15 for adults and $5 for students and individuals living on a low income. They are available online at www.flyandcamel.eventbrite.com, at the church office, or at the door.
