Feng Zhao thinks of many of her clients as friends.
The St. Vital resident is the owner of Vogue Spa & Nails, which celebrated its four-year anniversary on Dec. 1.
The business, which is located at 7-680 St. Anne’s Rd., offers a number of services including eyelash extensions, nail enhancements, manicures and pedicures, waxing and threading, reflexology, and massage.

Originally from China, Zhao — who moved to Canada in 2009 — was an esthetician who also “trained and educated” other estheticians in her homeland. Once in Winnipeg, she redid her licences, and opened her business in 2014.
Having established a loyal customer base in the last four years, Zhao said she has clients who travel to see her from across the city and beyond, as well as certain ones that drive in from northwest Ontario. And it’s her connection to her clients, combined with her passion for her vocation, which keeps her energized.
“Many of my customers have become like friends,” Zhao said. “I have lots of regular of customers, and many of them come in with their partners.”
“I love my job, and I never feel tired. I’m always energetic. I want my customers to feel like they’re at home, and welcome, and part of the family.”
Zhao said she places great emphasis on providing high standards of service, high-quality equipment and materials, and cleanliness and hygiene.
“I have very high standards for my staff, and I’m constantly training my staff and upgrading my training. I need to ensure my staff are up to my standards. Some people say I’m picky, but this is important to me. My supplies are high-quality, too, which is also important to me.”
One of Zhao’s regular customers, St. Vital resident Karen Zurba, said she has been visiting the business since it opened and is keen supporter of local businesses and entrepreneurs.
“I like coming here for a good manicure, and it doesn’t have the same chemical smell as other places,” Zurba said.
“As a nurse, hygiene is important to me, and I know that sterility is a priority here. They do a very good job here, and if there ever is a problem, even if it’s my fault — like if I accidentally smudge my nail polish — they’ll redo it for free.”
To celebrate Vogue’s four years in business, Zhao is holding a fourth anniversary celebration at the spa on Sat., 1 Dec. from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
As well, she is running a gift card promotion, which covers numerous products and services. The cards are available for purchase until Dec. 24, have no expiry date, and are valid from Jan. 1, 2019.
