On March 6 we resumed our legislative session, and I was honoured to rise on day one to recognize a remarkable team of young women, the Collège Jeanne-Sauvé Olympiens varsity volleyball team, and their coach Ben Albrecht. Through their dedication and hard work, they won the AAAA provincial high school girls volleyball championship in December.
I have had the privilege of meeting many powerful, intelligent, and inspiring women throughout my life. On March 8, we celebrated International Women’s Day. I had the opportunity to acknowledge and thank many women in our province who have made great contributions in our communities and our lives. I also extend a heartfelt thank you to all the trailblazing women in this community for helping make a difference. Let’s keep the momentum of gratitude going throughout the year, and continue celebrating each other’s accomplishments.
On March 7, our government introduced the 2019 Budget. We fulfilled our promise to reduce the PST to seven per cent. This reduction will take effect on July 1, saving an average family of four approximately $500 per year. We also kept our promise to lower the ambulance fees to $250, less than half of what it was under the previous government.
A great way to share your thoughts with me — come out to “Coffee and Conversation,” which I host regularly. I put the coffee on and invite you to drop into my office to say hello, share your perspective, or participate in a friendly neighbourhood conversation about matters of local interest. The next Coffee and Conversation will be held Sat., April 27 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at my constituency office, located at 5-140 Meadowood Dr. These engaging events allow me to fulfill my duty to proudly represent you and be your voice in the Manitoba Legislature. I hope to see you there! As always, if you have any questions or require assistance regarding provincial government programs and services, please call me at 204-615-5241 or write to me at rochelle@rochellesquires.ca
I wish everyone a wonderful spring break, and to head outside and enjoy the warmer weather!
