Sporting facilities at two fixtures in St. Vital’s Elm Park neighbourhood are in line for upgrades.
Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital) recently announced that Windsor Community Centre, located at 99 Springside Dr., will receive $80,000 in funding to replace the outdoor hockey boards at the facility’s north rink.
As well, it was announced that Louis Riel School Division will receive a $10,000 grant to replace the basketball standards, hoops, and backboards at the adjacent Windsor School, located at 80 Cunnington Ave.
In a June 3 news release, Mayes said stakeholders are modernizing the hockey and basketball facilities in light of “some aging recreational infrastructure in this part of St. Vital.”
“These projects were initiated by representatives from the community centre and the school, and I thank them for their efforts,” Mayes said, while also giving a nod to Saint Boniface–Saint Vital MP Dan Vandal as “some federal funding plans for the area freed up City funding that could go to Windsor.”
Mayes said the $80,000 funding comes from the St. Vital ward allocation for the Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program, and the $10,000 grant comes from the St. Vital ward allocation from the Riel Land Dedication Reserve. The rink boards are on City land, and the basketball court is on school property, he said.
