GoodLife Fitness is planning on making major in-roads in Winnipeg, especially in the south of the city.

According to a recent news release, the company is set to invest more than $30 million on three new developments in Winnipeg over the next two years.

Among them will be a 27,000-square foot club in St. Vital Centre, which will be developed in partnership with OPB Realty, as well as what is billed as the largest GoodLife Fitness clubs in Winnipeg and one of the largest in Canada, which will be located in the Refinery District at Bishop Grandin Boulevard and Waverley Street, and will be developed in partnership with Hopewell Development. The club at Portage and Main is also slated to be relocated to a brand-new 23,600-square foot at 330 Main St., which is owned by Artis REIT.

Ariane McFadyen, GoodLife’s director of operations for Winnipeg, told The Lance that while it’s a little early to share specific details about what the amenities will be at the future St. Vital location, the club — which is scheduled to open during the summer of 2020 — will feature “world-class offerings.”

In terms of GoodLife’s desire to establish a strong foothold in the south end of the city, McFadyen said St. Vital has been in the company’s sights for some time.

“We’ve had many requests for a St. Vital club over the years from both our members and associates. We are so excited that this location is coming to fruition and we will be able to provide a fitness centre for that part of Winnipeg,” McFadyen said.

“We’re always evaluating the places where we operate, and in reviewing what we currently offer our Winnipeg members, we saw a great opportunity to elevate their experience and provide them with some great new facilities. The south, in particular, was a gap in the city.”

Noting that competition in the fitness market is a great thing — “we love that there are people who share our passion for helping people get healthy” — McFadyen said it’s “the experience we provide our members that sets us apart” when asked about what she believes gives GoodLife a competitive edge in the market.

“We pride ourselves on creating an incredible experience for our members through our associates, programming and amenities,” she said.
