The Mark Dickof Memorial Award is a prize given every year to one student graduating high school in Winnipeg, as well as one graduating rural student, who promotes awareness of the importance of mental health. A joint effort of Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital), the Manitoba School Boards Association and the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association, the award is named for a childhood friend of Mayes’ who committed suicide at just 30 years old.

This year’s urban winner is Avery Shtykalo of J.H. Bruns Collegiate, who receives a $250 cash prize as a certificate.
