Herbs and Butters Skincare celebrated its second birthday last month.

The Winnipeg-based company started by Eira Shoichet offers products made with only natural ingredients using scientifically proven formulations. Shoichet says she’s created a complete line of products within two years,

“I have returning customers and lots of positive feedback. It is very satisfying to know that my products are helping people,” said the 42-year-old, married mother of two teenagers.

Born in Ukraine, Shoichet came to Canada 10 years ago. The Sage Creek resident graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a B.Sc. in Chemistry, worked in environmental and pharmaceutical laboratories and earned a certificate as a natural skincare formulator.

Her journey with natural skincare began when she struggled with adult acne. None of the products she tried made any difference. Her mother, a cancer survivor, uses herbs daily for healing skin wounds and controlling pain. She made her own skincare products and inspired Shoichet to do the same.

“She introduced me to butters and herbal tinctures and taught me the basics of how to make a moisturizing cream,” Shoichet said about her mother.

“While experimenting with ingredients and the process, I started noticing a difference on my skin. Acne was gone, pigmentation marks started to fade away and my skin started feeling and looking healthier. It sparked the idea of creating Herbs and Butters Skincare to offer solutions for healthier skin.”

Shoichet says that people’s interest in veganism and products that don’t involve animal testing has brought her customers. “As a vegan myself, I create products that align with my personal beliefs,” she said.

“My scientific knowledge and approach are what make my products unique, “ she said. “I develop and manufacture all my products by myself using high quality practices and equipment. This allows me to control the  process from start to finish. All products meet strict Canadian safety regulations.”

All Herbs and Butters products are biodegradable. Customer service is a priority for Shoichet and she encourages communication and feedback. First-time customers are provided free samples of purchased products to try before they open product containers.

Among Shoichet’s most popular products is raspberry moisturizing cream for dry and mature skin, a combination of hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, olive, avocado, raspberry and sea buckthorn oils.

Another best seller is the Q10 facial serum, and the recently introduced hyaluronic acid serum (with shiitake extract), known for its hydrating properties, has gained instant popularity.

Shoichet said she has grown to appreciate her customers even more during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m grateful to local community that makes conscious decisions to support local businesses, now more than ever.”

Herbs and Butters products are available at A1 Nutrition at Grant Park Shopping Centre, all Vita Health locations, Co-op on Vermillion Road  and Equip Massage Supply. They can also be purchased online through hbskincare.ca.
