Marion School will look and feel a little different in future years.
According to a Louis Riel School Division news release, the St. Boniface-based school is in line for a renovation project, which will include the improvement of the building envelope and windows, as well as accessibility upgrades such as the addition of an elevator and modifications to the current entrance.
Officials say the proposed project is estimated to cost $3.5 million, with construction expected to start in the summer of 2022, subject to provincial budget approvals. The school, which is located at 619 Des Meurons St., is a kindergarten to Grade 8 elementary school that was built in 1950. It’s currently home to LRSD’s Indigenous learning team, which serves schools across the division.
“I’m proud of our small, but mighty team of LRSD staff who continue to push projects such as this one forward while simultaneously juggling the challenges that come with navigating a pandemic,” LRSD’s superintendent, Christian Michalik, said in the news release.
“Strengthening the principles of equity and inclusion through universal design is one of the priorities in our Multi-Year Strategic Plan and this investment in Marion School is one of the steps LRSD is taking to achieve that goal.”
