Management and staff at Winnipeg’s five Super Auto Centres are so appreciative of the efforts of Winnipeg’s health-care workers that they’re giving them free car maintenance — again.
From April 3 to 10, all health care workers who arrive at any Super Auto Centre or Super Lube location will receive free oil, filter and lube service along with a tire rotation.
This will be the second time Super Lube has offered the service during the COVID-19 pandemic and it wants to provide more oil changes than when it first offered the program in May 2020.
“Last year, we served 4,018 health-care workers, but this time our goal is 5,000,” said Jonnie Hendrickson, Super Lube president.
Hendrickson said the initiative was the idea of staff members who told her they wanted to do something to give back to the people who have given so much over the past year.
Super Lubes were closed for a few weeks early in the pandemic and that’s when the idea began to take shape as employees saw friends and neighbours risking their safety to care for others in hospitals and clinics.
Many of Super Lube’s regular customers are health-care workers and some Super Lube personnel used to work in the health care system.
Those many connections made this a personal mission for Super Lube employees.
“Staff reached out saying they wanted to do something to give back to the people who kept going to work while they stayed safely at home,” Hendrickson explained.
She said that staffing levels are pretty much back to normal at Super Lube locations and that every last employee will be needed during Health Care Heroes week, when they will be going solid from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.
“We’re telling our regular customers about that week and warning them the lineups will be longer than usual,” Hendrickson said.
To receive the offer, health-care workers must present a valid piece of identification showing they work at a health-care facility. Then they sit in their car and let somebody take care of them for a change.
“They can get the oil change and then head over to the shop for a tire rotation,” Hendrickson said. “We’re happy to do it.”
The five Super Lube and Auto Centre locations in Winnipeg are located at 2028 Pembina Hwy., 1400 Regent Ave. W., 1585 St. Mary’s Rd., 3400 Portage Ave., and 1 McPhillips St.
