Rambling with… Body Measure

We’ve all likely seen the advertisements for Body Measure on TV.

I’ve been intrigued since I first saw one and, upon learning they’re located close to me, at 1086 St. Mary’s Rd.,  I needed to learn more. So I contacted  owners Meline Elliott and Erica Henderson.

Melina and Erica first worked together on a research study at the University of Manitoba. Melina was a research co-ordinator and Erica worked as an X-ray tech. Through their work in research it became clear that the public needed and wanted access to scientifically based data about their bodies and health.

Erica has also worked in the fitness industry for over 25 years, working as a fitness instructor and a trainer, so Body Measure combines both of Erica’s passions; her love of fitness and health and wellness technology.

Melina has a master of science degree in community health and has focused on working in the area of wellness among Canada’s older adults. In her work as a research co-ordinator, Melina saw firsthand the benefit of people having access to information of their body composition. Body Measure combines Melina’s love of research and helping others.

I chatted with them online, and we’ll go from there…

• Are you two the only owners of Body Measure or are there any other “silent” owners?
“We are the sole owners; Body Measure is 100 per cent female-owned.”

• Have you always been at your current location or have you ever relocated? Is this your only location?

“We have always been located here, we love our current location. It is easy to access with great parking.”

• How many employees do you currently have in your employ and have your numbers declined during the pandemic?

“We currently have a staff of three in addition to ourselves; luckily, we did not have to lay anyone off during the pandemic.”

• Do you take professional referrals or any other private insurance benefits? Does MPI coverage exist?

“Our registered dietitian’s services are typically covered under private insurance benefits. If you have a health spending account with your insurance you may be able to claim our other services.

“Body Measure provides Manitobans with an in-depth look into the makeup of their bodies, which will empower them to achieve their best health. By taking proactive measures their clients can improve their well-being, increase longevity and improve their quality of life.”
