Emily Potter continues to shoot for the stars.

That’s because the 22-year-old native of Winnipeg has signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Storm in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

In an April 19 news release, the Storm announced Potter — a Glenlawn Collegiate alumna who was also a member of the Manitoba provincial team — has signed with the franchise, bringing the team’s training camp tally to 16.

It’s the first time in Manitoba basketball that a player from the province has signed a contract with a WNBA franchise.

A defensive stopper while playing for the Utah Utes at the University of Utah, the record-breaking 6-6 Potter was the first player in Utah women’s basketball history to register more than 1,500 points, more than 1,000 rebounds, and more than 200 blocks in her four-year college career, officials say.

According to the release, the Storm will tip off the 2018 season against the Phoenix Mercury on May 20.
