Winnipeg Rowing Club crew big winners at Masters championships

Several local rowers were among those seeing gold at the recent 2016 Canadian Masters Championships, held July 23 and 24 at Wascana Lake in Regina.
Battling extremely windy conditions, the St. Boniface-based Winnipeg Rowing Club athletes captured 14 first place finishes, organizers say.
The annual regatta included competitors from Canadian and U.S. rowing clubs and almost 100 events.
The following Winnipeg crews (with locally-based winners indicated) brought home gold medals:
• Women’s single – Sheila Wilson-Kowal;
• Men’s single – Andrew Lamont;
• Women’s pair – Kaelyn Gauthier, Casie Gauthier;
• Women’s double – Kaelyn Gauthier, Casie Gauthier;
• Women’s double – Friederike von Aweyden, Sheila Wilson-Kowal;
• Men’s double – Andrew Lamont, Jeffrey Reitberger;
• Mixed double – Emily Erickson (Southdale), Ryan Desilets (St. Vital);
• Women’s quad – Janine Stephens, Friederike von Aweyden, Sandra Kirby (St.Vital), Sheila Wilson-Kowal;
• Women’s quad – Janine Stephens, Kaelyn Gauthier, Casie Gauthier, Emily Erickson (Southdale);
• Women’s four – Christina Blouw (St. Vital), Emily Erickson (Southdale), Janine Stephens, Kaelyn Gauthier;
• Men’s quad – Andrew Lamont, Tom Pundyk, Satoru Nakagawa, Jeffrey Reitberger;
• Mixed quad – Tom Pundyk, Elliot Garfinkle, Janine Stephens, Judy Baker (from Maple RC);
• Mixed quad – Christina Blouw (St. Vital), Eric Johnstone, Janine Stephens, Ryan Desilets (St. Vital);
