It’s not too early for fresh veggies, or homemade soap.

On Tues., June 18 the second annual Wolseley Farmers’ Market will see vendors flip open tables in front of the Robert A. Steen Community Centre and start selling their wares.

A poster promoting the outdoor market promises “Local fresh vegetables, fruits, breads, fish, meats and honey: Handmade artisan soaps, jewelry and much more.”

Jonathan Stevens, a co-organizer and a vegetable vendor, said, upon opening he will have “lettuce and spinach and kale, bok choy, green onions, herbs, radish, turnips, asparagus, and … pea shoots.”

As the season progresses he will add “the whole range of vegetables that people can commonly eat,” he said, including broccoli, carrots, beans and cabbage.

Stevens, who operates Jonathan’s Farm north of the city, said there should be at least two farmers at the market each day, “and possibly more.”

There will be about 20 vendors, he said, and all are mandated to sell local goods.

“It’s all local. Everything in this market, the vendor has to produce it themselves, whether it’s their own baking, their own produce or their own crafts.”

Stevens said, last year — the first year the market ran — was a success.

“It went really well. People really liked it.”

The Wolseley Farmers’ Market, located at 980 Palmerston Ave., will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 7:30 p.m. through to October 10.
